Neighbors in trek

Von Fidel Adventures offers treks into the scenic backdrop of the Punani jungle. Wide open spaces encompass most of the terrain in our treks. Elephant herds, traditional cattle and goats, deer, the elusive fishing cat, mouse deer and wild boar are some of the animals that roam these jungles. We offer casual treks, where you will experience unexploited nature, to elephant safaris which are more adventurous. We also offer personalized treks to suit your mood and interest to cater to the casual and hardcore trekking fans.

Our elephant safaris are adventurous as we actually track the herd movement. This is in contrast to the other safaris in Sri Lanka where you are driven to see elephants in a location where they are known to gather. Instead of swarming the elephants with jeeps and people, we approach the herd responsibly.

Communication and respect between you and our guides is vital, as we know what’s best for the animal’s welfare. With a little patience, the experience is extremely rewarding!

Ranch House

As the first ecotourism site with the unique distinction of being an organic dairy ranch, our first accommodation is the ranch house designed by our friend Ib Kidde-Hanson, a Danish engineer. It has a bedroom, bathroom, living room and a patio. As our dear friend and co-host Moiya Hazell desired we have a Scandinavian color theme.

Ranch Wadi

Wadi is a hut dwelling in a traditional Chena cultivation (swidden cultivation). We currently have two wadis that are ideal for a couple or two singles. Our wadi will be cool regardless of outside temperature. Here you will not miss air conditioning and it is living in unison with nature. One can naturally rise at dawn to the chirping of birds when you sleep in the wadi as it keeps you plugged in with nature.

Our wadis have built in private bathrooms and shower in addition to outdoor showers that every guest is bound to try.

Outdoor Showers

Outdoor showers are covered for privacy but stop short of blocking the natural breeze. Water used here is routed to a fodder plot or edible garden in keeping with the principles of ecotourism.
